Core Components of Commercial Electrostatic Precipitators

Introduction
This article details the core components of commercial electrostatic precipitators—HV power supply, patented filter cell, and ceramic insulator. It explains their roles, advantages, and maintenance to ensure high-efficiency purification and device safety.
Détails

The core components of commercial electrostatic precipitators (esp) equipment include HV power supply, patented filter cell and ceramic insulator. These components play their respective roles in the equipment and work together to achieve efficient purification of oil fume.

Filter cell and schematic diagram of commercial esp

In a commercial esp, a high-voltage DC current is applied between the cathode needle and anode tube to create an filter cell. This field ionizes air particles, enabling efficient smoke and fume capture. Due to the large curvature radius of the cathode and anode, a non-uniform filter cell forms, generating a stable corona current flowing from the cathode to the anode. This current, primarily made up of electrons and negative ions, attaches to passing oil fume particles, which then migrate toward the anode tube and deposit there. This process captures and separates fume particles from the air, achieving effective purification.

The front-stage plate filter cell has the largest average filter cell intensity, which serves as the high-efficiency purification area, and the plate filter cell serves as the rear-stage deep purification area to purify the remaining light smoke. The filter cell structure of honeycomb + Plate + Plate can achieve a high-concentration oil fume purification effect of 98.7%.

Performance and Advantages of Cylindrical Honeycomb Filters

  • With the same volume and the same inter-electrode distance, a larger dust collection area (anode area) can be obtained.
  • Higher and more uniform filter cellstrength and higher corona current can be obtained:
  • Good rigidity completely solves the problem that other filter cellstructures are prone to deformation after disassembly and maintenance.

The above advantages provide a guarantee for the high purification efficiency of the purification system. The combination of the two filter cells can achieve a high concentration of oil fume purification effect of 98.7%.

The filter cell is the core area of the commercial electrostatic precipitators , which is mainly responsible for ionizing and adsorbing oil fume particles. The design of the filter cell directly affects the purification effect and the operating stability of the equipment. Therefore, corrosion-resistant and high-temperature resistant metals such as stainless steel or aluminum alloy are often used in material selection. Cleaning and maintenance of the filter cell are equally important. Accumulated oil stains will reduce the adsorption efficiency and even cause equipment failure, so regular cleaning is required to maintain the good performance of the equipment.

High-voltage power pack in commercial esp filter

The high-voltage power pack is a critical component in commercial esp, supplying the necessary high-voltage current to the filter cell. Acting as the “heart” of the purifier, it enables the ionization and capture of oil particles by generating a strong filter cell. Typically, this high-voltage output ranges from several kilovolts to tens of kilovolts, depending on the device's design and application needs. The quality and stability of the power pack directly impact purification efficiency—insufficient voltage weakens the filter cell, making particle ionization less effective, while excessively high voltage may destabilize field discharge. In modern systems, high-frequency switching power supplies are often used to enhance efficiency and reduce electromagnetic interference. Advanced models even feature automatic adjustment functions that fine-tune voltage based on fume concentration, reducing energy consumption.

Ceramic Insulator in Commercial ESP Filter

The ceramic insulator is a crucial, though often overlooked, component in commercial esp. Its primary function is to isolate the high-voltage power pack from the electric field electrodes, ensuring the safe operation of the equipment. The insulating quality of the ceramic insulator directly impacts the stability of the filter cell and the smooth transmission of high-voltage electricity. High-quality ceramic insulators effectively prevent high-voltage leakage, reducing the risk of electric breakdown, equipment damage, and potential electric shock incidents.

The ceramic insulator is composed of a high-voltage line connected to a high-voltage power pack, a ceramic insulator for high-voltage insulation, a rubber ring for sealing the casing, a damping resistor inside the porcelain bottle for eliminating the impact of high-voltage electric oscillation, and an elastically retractable high-voltage output pin.

The ceramic insulator is a component used to connect a high-voltage power pack to an filter cell.

The negative high voltage generated by the high-voltage power pack is transmitted to the filter cell through the high-voltage line, the damping resistor and the high-voltage output pin.

The performance advantages of Kleanlands ceramic insulator

High finish and good anti-fouling performance can keep the equipment working normally for a long time, thereby reducing maintenance costs;

Long creepage distance can ensure normal operation for a long time before the filter cell needs to be cleaned, thereby reducing maintenance costs.

Ceramic insulators are usually made of high-strength, high-temperature resistant and corrosion-resistant ceramic materials to meet the long-term use requirements of oil fume purification equipment in high temperature, high humidity and oil fume environments. The design and installation quality of the ceramic insulator are crucial. If there is dirt or damage on the surface of the ceramic insulators, the insulation effect will be greatly reduced. Therefore, the status of the ceramic insulators should be checked regularly during the daily maintenance of the equipment.
